Wow, absolutely sick! The recording quality sounds absolutely professional, and the acoustic show is amazing. I'm so glad that I finally get to hear "No More Noyes" and "Freddy Had A Lady!" I love the acoustic version of rock like war, never thought it'd work. :-P Excellent find, I'm going to have to put this CD on repeat!

Very nice, what a gem, acoustic and some rarities. And it does sound great! Thanks for sharing!
Quick question.. at the very end of HWP, Spence goes into a little riff that I recognize but can't place. I'm not even sure if I like the song, but it's familiar and now I'm curious. Anyone ID that?

anybody know the original order of the songs? It kinda sounds like Red Afternoon was first and Simple Song was last, but can't really figure out the rest.

Yeah, the order I have the set posted is how it was listed in the folder 4k sent me (tracks were numbered). Most of the tracks have lead-ins for the next track at the end so it's pretty clear that that's the correct order as far as I can tell.

First off 4khiker you are AWESOME for finding this one! To All: This is a must have show for any collection I've listened to this twice now and I'd hate to say it, but I think that this pre-Rustic break-up recorded show is one of the best I have in my collection. I think it surpasses The Last Show at The State Theater. Not by volume but by emotion. It's right next to the '99 Stonecoast Brewing Show This show gives so much. Acoustic set. I love how personal acoustic sets feel Special appearance from Dave Noyes (post leaving Rustic / pre-Rustic break-up) The Happy Birthday song at the start of Black Leather Bag Poverty and No Complex rhyming on Smoke and ( I think Darryl?) Spencer's professed love of Phish ;D Gutter's real hurt from Noyes leaving with the song No More Noyes. I now see it as a tribute song not only to Dave Noyes, but to the band. It shows that Noyes is an individual that completes Rustic. As all the members complete Rustic. Without all of them together the whole thing falls apart. I think this is also the only live recording I have of No More Noyes. Like I said 4KHiker you're awesome in my book Thanks

Spencer also goes into Lady Madonna at the end of Freddy.

Oops, missed that one. What's funny about Freddie is when I heard this acoustic version I thought the start of it (Jon's bass line) sounded like The Grateful Dead's version of Turn On Your Love Light.

Was there more to this show? At the start of Black Leather Bag, Dave refers to it as part two of a song played earlier (The Heist: "I walked in the bank, black leather bag tucked tight beneath my arm...).
An acoustic version of The Heist, now I'm just getting greedy.
I'll back you up, Nuphus, on this being one of the best recorded shows I've heard. I love hearing the different takes on familiar songs mixed with rarities like Red Afternoon and No More Noyes.

I noticed Lady Madonna immediately. Spencer played it with Rocktopus at the 8/9/02 Patio Show, along with some other sweet covers. (Hungry Like the Wolf, anyone?)

I think this is the second show of a 2 show day at the same place (if that made any sense). The Heist was probably at the first set.

Hey, quick question. Is Red Afternoon a cover, or a song that they never got around to recording and releasing?

Hadn't ever heard of Red Afternoon 'til I downloaded this show. Spencer alludes to how much he used to love the Phish song, Fluffhead, and the intro to Red Afternoon kinda sounds "Phishy" (to me at least). Maybe it's the type of song that was for fun but didn't really fit anywhere?

I have a mp3 from norm of another (I assume) performance of Red Afternoon, so I think it's an original, sort of like Break The News, that was never released.

I really liked Rocktopus back in the day and I'm a HUGE fan of covers (I love the Beautiful Locals CD of Portland artist covering other Portland artists) and that Rocktopus patio show is one of my favorites. The fact that not a single one of the numerous Rocktopus/As Fast As Beatles shows has apparently been recorded is a travesty. I was at the very first "Beatles Show" at the Big Easy and it was amazing. Hey, quick question. Is Red Afternoon a cover, or a song that they never got around to recording and releasing? Yeah I'm with Crayons on that, I just don't think they ever got a chance to record it. I have a really crappy copy of Red Afternoon from who knows when as well (probably the same version Crayons has) that I thought I uploaded to the media thread but I guess not. It has a sound all its own so I just don't think they ever found a suitable home for it. I'll upload the other version when I get a chance, but I warn you that it sounds like @ss.

Glad everyone is enjoying it so much. I honestly had forgotten I had this show. I listened to it TO DEATH when I first got it several years ago, wore the original CD it came on out so most of the songs skipped. It lived in my truck and met an untimely death. Luckily, I had put it on the computer when I first got it and only through Darek and a small debt owed to him that I remembered having it. So he deserves thanks as well. I am willing to bet there are several other gems out there stashed away like this one. The more people that join this site, the more likely they will emerge. I'm certainly telling everyone I know. Still to me, the State Theater "Last Show" is my favorite. I remember Zoidis' solo at the end of Pop Trash choked me up at that show, it was so fitting yet so sad, they could have played it as the very last song and it would have fit, but then Dave started strumming Scarecrow....……….

I was at the very first "Beatles Show" at the Big Easy and it was amazing. I have a hand-me-down copy of AFA's Abbey Road show. The quality's not great, but I'll see if I can find the files if people are interested.

Just to comment some more on Red Afternoon - when I was working on uploading setlists, it was nowhere to be seen, and then suddenly in the latter part of 2001 it kept showing up. Most likely it was new and they didn't get around to doing much with it.

Speaking of setlists, I think I found this one. I went and looked up Big Easy sets as I remembered something about an acoustic show. Aug. 17th 2001 was a two-set acoustic show at the Big Easy. Originally it didn't quite match but the notes mentioned Boys & Girls and Darryl being in the wrong order. Iron Boots was not listed at all, and Feast or Famine was included as part of the set not the encore. Listening to it makes it sound like it wasn't even really an encore. There was also "(KNOW Complex)" after Black Leather Bag, I'm not sure what that was for and there's no mention of it in the audio. I've edited it to reflect the audio evidence. Here it is: ro.nonz.net/ro/setlists/08172001.php
