I've been to a few Rustic shows in my time. My favorite was one with Shufflin' Tremble at Sunday River back in I think late summer/fall of 1999. It was a really tiny venue, so everyone was up close and personal with the band. They played a really Long Division-heavy setlist that night for some reason, which was a treat. They were playing two sets that night. I ended up at the earlier all-ages one due to a friend of mine needing to get home early for some reason.
There was a funny moment before the show started when everyone was waiting in line to get into the room. Dave was coming down the stairs, walking against the crowd, and had made it about halfway down without anyone recognizing him. When I looked up at him, he must have seen the flash of recognition on my face because he just put his finger to his lips as if to say, "Shhh." I took the hint and didn't say anything. When he passed me he quietly said, "Thanks" and kept going. He made it another few steps down the stairs before someone yelled, "Hey, it's the guy from Rustic!" and he started getting mobbed by all the kiddies asking for him to sign their tickets and cds.
How about you? Do you have any fun/funny/sappy Rustic concert stories that you'd like to share?

I was so close to starting a Rusty Covertones band last month. Some one finally nabbed the name. Like whoa.
My brother, my friend and I are in the Combustible video. That's hardcore. Look for my bro at one point jumping over the fence. Pretty sweet.

When the band first called it quits, we joked that we'd start a band called Rusty Covertones and be a Rustic cover band. Since none of us are very musically inclined, the "rusty" part of the name would really be appropriate...

The first Rustic concert I ever saw was in college in 1996. I had a few drinks that night, but I must have really enjoyed the show, because I discovered the next day that I had bought a CD. I had no memory of the purchase until I found Long Division in the pocket of my jacket. One of my friends told me that I just handed whoever was at the merch table my wallet so he could take the appropriate amount of cash.

My very first Rustic Overtones memory was at a show in Atlanta. They were opening for 2 Skinnee J's, who I was there to see, and I had only vaguely heard of Rustic through airplay of the C'mon video on CTN on campus. I was totally bummed about a recent breakup, but Rustic put on a hell of a show and lifted my spirits. Of course, they didn't come down south very often in those days, so I wasn't able to see them again before the breakup.
I have some PSC stories, including the time I drank a beer with the guys and interviewed them for my site and I was so pumped.

I too have a bunch of PSC stories as well, but I distinctly remember seeing RO at UNH in late 99 I think. They played to about 40 or 50 really hyped kids in the Granite State Room and rocked just as hard as if it were 2,000 people. After, they hung around and talked to people and signed stuff and I'm pretty sure took a picture with damn near every person there. It was the first time I had ever seen ANY band do something like that and it made a major impression on me.

It was the first time I had ever seen ANY band do something like that and it made a major impression on me. That reminds me of the PSC show I went to here in Richmond. There were literally 15 people in the crowd, and Dave & Co. rocked it like it was a full room. They took requests, drank with the crowd before, during, and after the show, and really seemed to enjoy themselves despite the poor turnout. By the way, the poor turnout was no fault of theirs. The club they played at advertised the wrong time (different times on the flyers and answering machine - both wrong), said that there would be opening acts (there weren't), and basically dropped the ball every chance they had. That, and it was a Sunday. Shows on Sunday don't work in downtown Richmond since almost everything is closed...

Oh, and how can I forget, I saw them on my birthday in 2000 on a boat on Lake Champlain.

1) October 2000, they played homecoming at my high school
2) Chili Fest in Portsmouth, september/october 2001 with Jeremiah Freed
3) PSC @ Stone Church last fall, front row. I met Dave after the show and he signed the setlist I snagged. I said how awesome it was to hear Iron Boots and Combustable, how I had been a fan for 10 years, yadda yadda yadda, and he said "I saw you singing along with the old stuff, that's awesome. Thanks for sticking with us for so long."

Hands down one of my favorite memories of Rustic was when Boarders just opened up, they played the Caffe and it was Spencer's 1st, or one of his 1st shows. Dave made mention of him as the new member, and how, tonight he was their bitch, and to get the band some water. I think there was 25 people max there.
Also was new years 97 or something. Dave at the beginning said to excuse him, because he has been sick as a dog the last few days. Yeah, Right, no joke, seen the guys around 20+ times, never heard him belt out stronger and fiercer in my life. One hell of a show.
1st show was at Zootz, some time in 95 or something, they had a trumpet player at that time.

When they played UMF in 99 or 2000 we finished up with sound check and Spencer wanted some masking tape... He started making a 4-square court in the middle of the floor in South Dining Hall(Where they played). The band and the set-up crew we had there played a few rounds of four square before one of the best shows I've seen then play... Good times.

My favorite show was my second show which I believe the year was 92. Pretty much the starting point for them being my favorite band. I believe the place was called shellys located in Biddeford. It was Ryans first show and all of about four people were there. One was my friend and the other two were a couple in the fifties who lasted a few tunes requesting country covers. I remember Rustic rocking as if the place was packed. We met the band and I was blown away with how friendly and humble they were (still are very much so). Dig and outlaw biker stood out that night. When they found out we made a pretty good drive to see them, they offered us a hotel room for their next show if we could make it at umf since they had an extra room reserved.
The proceeding umf show could easily be a favorite as well, we had the guy doing the sound make a copy of the show. Wish I could account for the tape. For ten years it was played frequently. Matt Estes (name may be off) original drummer sat in on for a tune and scarecrow was played. Partying in the hotel and playing a little NHL video game action is a sweet memory. Super stoked to see them back and bringing it. Made my summer.

That's a tough one. Driving to a show in Boston with Spencer's dad was cool. Playing 4 square with the guys in some place out in western mass I think or maybe in RI or northern ME, I don't know, it all looks the same after a while. Ooooo, after party on High st in Portland after a show at the State, that was cool, I think Begs offered to kiss my feet or something. The show in skankford, me when some guy messed with the sound board and Madio picked a fight with him and trashed the stage after the show and a monitor fell on Jon. Playing pass with a nerf football over Mass ave in cambridge before a show at the middle east then Jon lost the ball (way to go). Every show when people would touch Ryan's bum and blame it on me. One time the middle east when I did touch ryan's bum (by accident of course). getting directions to the nearest DD from the human GPS, Tony.
Oh nope I got it, giving the band the key to the city of portland in front of a sold out crowd at the state theatre, that was cool.

Rustic was the first band I ever saw live on stage. Back at Localpalooza in '95 or '96 at Somersworth HS. That was definitely sweet.
Father's day back when they played in Prescott Park (1997?) Dave says: "We've never played this live, first time" ---> turned out to be Iron Boots.
Best ever: Rustic played at the Red Hook Brewery in Portsmouth, no stage. They were setup right on the floor, level with the 25 or so of us there. Some guy was thrashing around, dancing like a drunk jerk (he was in his 30s or so). At one point, Dave asked him nicely to watch out for people around him, stop being a dick. So the guy kept being a drunk, slamming into people, etc.... Dave stops playing, takes his guitar off, grabs the guy and hauls his ass all the way outside. Then he simply came back in, picked up his guitar, and kept going w/ the show.
