Wow. Wow wow wow. Okay, normally I would never even think of making such a fan boyish thread such as this, but I just have no choice.
This weekend, I was making my bi-weekly trip to bull moose music and I was making my rounds through the used sections, seeing what obscure U2, Radiohead, and Sigur Ros singles I could find. Even though I never have any real hope of finding anything, by habit and whim I always have to check the Rustic Overtones used section just on the 1/1000 chance that there's something there. Well, apparently this must have been my thousandth time, because lo and behold a CD caught my eye. At this point I was still too shocked to recognize what it was just from the side view, so I picked it off the shelf and was looking in my hands at a near perfect condition copy of Long Division!
Now this might not seem like such a big thing to most of the people here, but I haven't owned a copy of this album since my tape of it went missing in the late 90's, and honestly before now I'd completely forgotten just about all the songs on the entire album and only had the live versions of about a kid, simple song, and long division (the song) to hold me over. So Sunday when I was listening to Long Division, it was like listening to it for the first time. Honestly, I was immediately blown away. I had no idea what I'd been missing out on! Simple Song, About a Kid, and Long Division were all just as amazing as I thought they'd be, but what really got me was all of these songs that I'd never heard before which are starting to become some of my favorite Rustic Overtones songs! Spunk Drive 185! Pop Trash! Colors of Discipline! Slowly! Fake Face! This is so amazing to hear the pre-Rooms by the Hour Rustic Overtones, it just has such an amazing funky skaish sound. This just proves that the Rustic Overtones are one of the most amazing and diverse bands ever, especially when you compare this stuff with Viva Nueva or even some stuff off Light at the End.
So in conclusion, in my fit of bewilderment and utter excitement, I couldn't think of a better way to pay tribute to this album of sheer brilliance and musical bliss than by creating this thread in honor. Yeah, probably not the best idea one could have come up with, but its the best I could come up with.
So anyone else want to give a testimonial as to how amazing Long Division? Anyone? ;D
