O...K... I guess? Rustic has a violin player that plays with them. Sometimes,,,,, And when she's there she doesn't play all the time.
I read these threads about the good old days of Rustic and how sad it was when they broke up. Then to read cheers about their coming back together and their coming of age. Do you really want to see Rustic with DMB and have the guys break up again? Or worst; one of the guys going postal from hearing that repetitive sound and that god awful violin; night after night. Don't tell me that you listen to the same DMB disc all the time; and if you do; sorry to tell you but you're already crazy.
The DMB idea is just missing the U

DMB is horrible. I'd hate to see Rustic get lumped in with that.

I'm afraid I sorta sneered at the computer screen when I read that bulletin. Exposure is good... but DMB? Yuck.

Why? Because Gutters vocals sound a bit like Mattews? Or is there more to it than that? Like Yeoldedoch says exposure is good, but. She is right any way to get the music out there. Just because you don't care for DMB dosn't mean DMB fans won't LOVE Rustic. I beleive they would, who wouldn't? Especially Live the first time! I perfer to see DMB opening for Rustic Overtones. That would be sweet!

OK, first of all, D. Gutter sounds nothing like D. Matthews. Matthews sounds like a muppett. I also cringed when I saw this thread.
How about Rustic opening for 311? Which did happen in '97 at Old Orchard Beach Ballpark in a Nor'easter.

I was holding off on commenting until some other folks chimed in, but just for the record, I think this is a less than wonderful idea. I want them to get exposure and I'd love it if they could finally get the sort of acclaim they've deserved for years, but I want them to do it on their own terms. Plus, there are enough drunk frat boys at the shows already, they don't need to tack on the DMB contingent.
In all fairness though, I was a HUGE fan of DMB's earlier stuff. Under the Table and Dreaming is the first CD I ever had to replace because I literally wore it out and it was so scratched that it wouldn't play anymore (Rooms by the Hour was the second).

Seems like the band is into this idea if they sent out a Myspace bulletin asking for votes.

"Exposure is exposure" (My vote)
I'm always torn because in a selfish way I love the fact they (Rustic) are not touring the country/globe and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg or a tent to camp out and get tickets before selling out.
On the other hand I want the best for them and to be successful. And it'd be pretty sweet seeing them rock a huge venue.
I don't hate DMB.. particularly as Darek said the older stuff is decent, but I feel there's much worse. Overrated, for sure, but the worst? The primary reason I voted that way, though, is because it was Rustic's bulletin. It wouldn't be my ideal pairing, but exposure is exposure, and if it was their idea.. I'd imagine they're okay with it.

The idea of opening up for dmb doesn't sit well with me. The idea of opening in general is kind of a bummer. I understand the idea of exposure though. If the band wants it then I have to be for it in some ways. I saw rustic open for guster at URI, and unfortunately the group I was with were the only ones there to see rustic. They played a brief set and people were sitting down. Lame as hell. As soon as guster got on stage everyone bum rushed the stage. My crew left during the first song, and to this day I'm not a guster fan. They should have opened for rustic. I'm biased. Saw them open for De la Soul and that was sweet to me despite the different crowd types. It will be interesting where RO ends up.
