I was big into the Portland music scene while I was going to school at UNH from 99-03 and the scene at that time was awesome. Sam Pfeifle put together a quick list of a few things he'd like to see happen in the coming year to revitalize the Portland scene and includes the impending success of Rustic. Read the whole article here. Excerpt: "3) For LIGHT AT THE END TO RECEIVE NATIONAL ATTENTION: Word is that Velour Records will be re-releasing the new Rustic Overtones record nationally in March. There may still be some details to work out, but Rustic are already listed on Velour’s MySpace page, so something’s going on. The label that also carries Soulive, Kaki King, Sonya Kitchell, and the Cat Empire hasn’t exactly made superstars of those bands, but all of them seem to have productive and continuing music careers. For Rustic to attain that status would be important as an anchor for the Portland scene. Don’t underestimate Ray LaMontagne’s impact on how people view Maine. It’s been real and it’s been good for all of us. A Rustic record selling even a tenth of what Ray has would work a similar wonder."I also completely agree with what he says about The State.

I haven't read the article yet, but on the note of making fame and selling records. Look at what happened to Fiest. She was a punk rocker with ties to Peaches and Gonzales. She had her song Gatekeeper tied to the HSBC commercial. Then Sony picked her up for their nano commercial. Now she's playing SNL and The Today Show; and all of this in just the past year. I think the guys will do great things in this coming year. And a the very least they'll all be able to still pay the rent doing what they love. Thanks for the article Darek
