So we have covered favorite album, favorite tune, and dream set list. Seems we are in bit of a quiet season on the blog. The first time I heard rustic play a cover tune I was totally shocked, and at first it took me a bit to warm up to the idea. Then I realized they completely rock the shit out of "sledge hammer", and the mega phone brought the song to another level as well. I dig "new drug" and would love to see it live, because I haven't. With smokashir thrown in the mix, you kinda never know when RO will break out there version of a tune. RO is my favorite band and I prefer their tunes, but MY QUESTION IS:
WHAT ARE SOME COVER TUNES YOU WOULD WANT OR THINK RUSTIC COULD ROCK?
I'm still pondering the question. My wife thinks something from Journey. I believe her response is part comedic.

I'm obviously a huge Hendrix fan (i.e. my avatar). So any obscure tune like: "In from the Storm" "Rainy Day; Dream Away" "Machine Gun" :and many others would be great. I have a great tribute album by the World Jazz Saxophone Quartet if the guys on horns need some inspiration. But as I thought about this more and more I know that Rustic would completely change my mind if they did. Shuggie Otis - "Sparkle City" or "Strawberry Letter 23"off the Inspiration Information album

Here's a few that could be interesting: - Digging In The Dirt or Steam by Peter Gabriel (Sledgehammer worked, so why not these?) - Everybody Wants You by Billy Squier - Don't Have You by Fighting Gravity - Spiderview or Wasted by the Pietasters - 7 Years by Everlast
And finally, this one's a real stretch, but I bet it would rock: - Kiss by Prince

This was really tough for me to think about, for a few reasons. One being the debate whether a cover should mimic the original or be a whole new twist with your own personality on it. I feel it'd almost have to be the latter, as it's been a challenge for me to think of songs with fully matching instruments. There's some bands with (in addition to the standard) keys, and there's some with saxophones/horns, and not (in my modest collection/knowledge) a lot that match up fully.
Another is being too cliche - a classic/well known song? Or artist? Or is it cliche to use something more obscure? Are certain songs untouchable? Who knows.
All that said, here's a list I thought would be cool regardless: (sorry about my singer selections, dave! ooh also, that pete guy with the who is supposedly pretty good)
Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Beatles Going The Distance - Cake Burden In My Hand - Soundgarden Magic Carpet Ride - Steppenwolf Fly Like An Eagle - Steve Miller Band Won't Get Fooled Again - The Who

Sgt Pepper would be cool. Dave Noyes was one of three horn players who jumped in with As Fast As for Sgt Pepper back in November.

There have been some great responses, some I truly wish I thought of. It is hard to pick trying to consider many of the factors. As mentioned above.
My tunes:
last goodbye- jeff buckley. you would need to add the horns. Dave can nail the screaming parts for sure. Could see it being better than the original.
one- metalica light my fire- doors. keys led me to this song. in to the mystic- van morrison. sort of a "happy" feel

They could definitely pull off Cake. I'd like to hear a Sublime tune, like 40 oz to Freedom. Spencer did a cover of Cure For Pain by Morphine with As Fast As, but if I recall it was with three guitars. Cure for Pain, or I'm Free Now would be great, they would really showcase Jon and Jason, too.

Songs I would like to see them cover (with the angle that they would put their own flavor on it)
Weezer - Tired Of Sex (horns instead of moog would be badass) Goldfinger - Here in your Bedroom or Superman Spin Doctors - Two Princes The Rentals - The Love I'm Searching For (again, horns instead of moog. not sure what they'd do with the female backing vocals though) Under Pressure (brain fart, I forget who did the original), going into Ice Ice Baby for a minute since they have the same beat and of course a whole ton of Sublime songs they could do.

+1 Under Pressure, with some serious Gutter screams.

+1 Under Pressure, with some serious Gutter screams. Yeah, but the temptation to turn it into "Ice, Ice, Baby" would be a bit too much for them to resist...

Rusty Covertones, YES! Steam by Peter Gabriel would be so B.A. Here are my suggestions, please reserve judgement on #3:
1)Superstition - Stevie Wonder 2)Sir Duke - Stevie Wonder 3)All That She Wants - Ace of Base 4)Hard To Handle - Black Crowes

Under Pressure or Superstition could be cool.
Here's another one I thought of when I heard it on the radio recently: Wishing Well by Terence Trent D'arby
