Hey all, I'm Dem at Bull Moose. Just wanted to drop the word on what's happening soon with Rustic/AFA and the Bull Moose stores if the news hasn't already made it to you via other channels. 1) As Fast As in-store at the Bull Moose in Portland! March 8th, acoustic, free, starts at 5pm! More info on that and the new record here: www.bullmoose.com/rel/v2_home.php?storenr=258&deptnr=1382) Light at the End major label reissue - we've still got copies of the original edition that will no longer be made, and they're on sale at the moment, so you can still pick one up (as if anyone here hasn't already). The reissue is through Velour/Fontana records and has new artwork and a bonus track feat. David Bowie. It'll drop nationwide (and at Bull Moose) on March 18th. 3) Long-awaited, Long Division deluxe reissue! It was supposed to be out over the holidays, and of course then it wasn't. We promise it's for real this time - March 18th, same day as the Light at the End re-release. We'll have it available for preorder on our website soon, too (you won't be able to miss it, it'll link from the home page at bullmoose.com). There are some other little rumblings going on at Bull Moose right now, so when I know anything definite I'll shout out here first. Cheers! P.S. - Tim, long time no see, we should chat sometime. Jason's got my phone number... -Dem, Web Manager @ Bull Moose

Thanks for the update Dem, we appreciate it! We had gotten word about the first two events but it's great to finally have confirmation of the LD re-release. Any details you can share about exactly what makes it "deluxe"? I'm as confused as Onlycrayons about the "bonus track feat. David Bowie". We were under the impression that the bonus track was going to be Valentines Day Massacre feat. Imogen Heap. Are we just way off base on that? Is there going to be another track, maybe a hidden track like Happy was? I'd be up for seeing Sector Z or Man Without a Mouth make it, just looking for some clarification. Regardless, get that online pre-order up and running ASAP and feel free to beat the price on CD Universe. I also wouldn't be opposed to a package deal of some kind if we get LATE and LD together (which I imagine a bunch of us will), just a thought By the way, it's cool that you're liquidating the old LATE. I noticed it when I went to pre-order the new AFA disc from your site and snatched up another copy. At $7ish +shipping, it's hard to say no.

Re: the LATE reissue - The track is Valentine's Day Massacre. I'm hoping (but don't know) it's different than the version on Viva Nueva, but we haven't gotten our copies yet and there's little information on the release. Spencer's usually pretty responsive, so I'll shout him down and see what he has to say about the extra track... Re: Long Division - It's repackaged with new artwork in a cardboard case and includes three bonus tracks (14-16): "Red Afternoon", "Redemption Pays", and "Let Me Grabbitz". Haven't heard them and can't say whether they're live tracks, demos, stuff they played live but didn't include on studio records, session recordings, or brand new tracks. I'll confess that Rustic's output is not my area of expertise having only been to a couple shows (the shame of it!) but I'll bet any minute now a bunch of people on this forum will jump in and know exactly what those tracks are? Both items now available for preorder on BullMoose.com as of today (it's front-page news on our site). Price MAY vary on release date but if it does you'll get whatever our cheapest price was whether it was the preorder price or the street-date price. Cheers! -Dem www.bullmoose.com

Sweet! Thanks again Dem.
I'm familiar with Red Afternoon but the other two are new to me unless they go by another name. Anybody else?
Looking forward to the 18th.

Maybe one of them is "The Secret Song" from that 1998 show. That would be cool.

Just an additional "FYI" - got word from Spencer that the Light at the End reissue has the same version of "Valentine's Day Massacre" as the version on Viva Nueva. Sorry to break the bad news that it's not an alternate version. The reissue also does not include "Black Leather Bag", so the original edition of LATE is still unique beyond just the packaging. -Dem www.bullmoose.com

Yea, that's fairly disappointing. I felt kind of guilty at first thinking of not buying it (I like to, to show support or something) but I'll probably get Long Division and will be going to some upcoming shows, so that covers me I think

I just got totally schooled as well by someone on this board (thanks, seriously!) for incorrectly noting a Bowie bonus track. The Bowie track on Viva Nueva's "Sector Z" and isn't on this release, so in fact there's no Bowie track at all on the LATE reissue. I'm truly sorry for the misinformation. Any order cancellations that need to take place please feel free to e-mail me at bullmoosemusic@gmail.com and I'll answer them as quickly as possible!

While I'm here, though, I should mention for those that don't get our e-mail newsletter that we have confirmed a Rustic Overtones in-store performance at the North Windham Bull Moose on Saturday, March 22nd (very likely at 3pm or 4pm, not yet certain of the time)...

That's too bad. Looks like I'll have to cancel my order. With all due respect, how many times are you going to announce to the world that you're NOT buying the CD? Meanie. J.

If we pre-ordered LATE at Bull Moose online will we get the vinyl, or is it just an in-store deal? Dem?
Yup. Now can you tell Jimmy Two Times and Tony Stacks to stop hanging around outside my house?
Will do. Seriously, I can understand not wanting to pay for something twice, but those buying the new LATE will not only get some cool new artwork from Mr. Corrigan, but will definitely support us in the long term. The new LATE and the revised Long Division are well worth your time (and your greenbacks). Would we ever steer you wrong? We love all of you. J.

I've always tried to buy CDs at concerts, I feel like there's less money going into various non-artist pockets. However, I have no idea if that's true. On the other hand, I feel like purchasing from a retailer would pad the sale statistics. I'm going to take this opportunity to go to the source and find out if one option is preferable. What say you? (Keep in mind there's no awesome bullmoose nearby )

I'm with Jeff. I always try to buy CDs at concerts. I like having a memento of the performance, and I do like the idea of handing the money more or less straight to the band. Although, waiting for the band to come play near me made me miss out on both Rocktopus albums (which I eventually found on ebay) and the first As Fast As album (which I'm still looking for).
But that's an interesting question, is one option better for the artist?

I think we can all agree that Not buying the album wouldn't be good for the artist. I would think show verses store buying you still support the Artists involved from musician, artist, engineering, distribution, record label, etc... Are the people on the west coast and in the south to wait until Rustic shows up so that their money only supports the artist? I'm sure my 7" vinyl won't be at the show. Hell, after the news of the change in LATE I've bought two of the old version (to be left in wrapper) and three of the new one (Christmas taken care of for a few people); plus a couple of the LD-deluxe version (Christmas as well). I think it stems from the SHish album I have has a lot of miles on it. I was lucky enough to get it into my computer before it was scratched or ruined. I know that I have a lot of Hendrix albums that I'll never find again, because of scratches on the vinyl or cd there are songs I'll never fully hear again. Just food for thought

If we pre-ordered LATE at Bull Moose online will we get the vinyl, or is it just an in-store deal? Dem? I responded to your e-mail on this too, Darek, but just for the benefit of all I'll say at the moment we don't know what the deal is on the vinyl - talk about last minute! We're expecting them from the record label but they haven't yet arrived - hopefully we'll know more on Friday when (hopefully) they show up at our warehouse. If they're available in time for release I will make sure that preorders are sent with the vinyl included. If they aren't here in time, I'll still make sure that all preorders are covered when the vinyl does arrive. Since we haven't yet got them in stock we haven't mentioned this promotion (we've had a case in the past where the label (not this one, incidentally) promised something they couldn't deliver, which makes us look bad and also results in customers potentially making a purchase based on a promise that is not fulfilled - not a great thing for anyone involved). However, consider it a given that should this vinyl surface, preorders will certainly be first on the list to receive them, since that's how it should be!

But there is an awesome bullmoose nearby! It's at www.bullmoose.com! (Related: someone mentioned looking for the first AFA album - if you mean "Open Letter to the Damned", there are still copies at Bull Moose and you can also find it on the website.) okay, </pimping bull moose> The "how does the artist best benefit" discussion is a really interesting one. I don't know how it works in this particular case but it's true that the artist almost always gets a bigger financial cut when selling direct; and it's also true that direct sales are not as likely to be reported to SoundScan, the body that monitors numbers (which is how you get the results of how many million copies Janet Jackson's latest record sold when you open up a copy of Rolling Stone, or what-have-you). So there are good sides to both. Our relationship with Rustic has been, I think, very beneficial for both of us both financially and promotionally (Bull Moose looks good selling records by our local heroes, and they in turn benefit from our clout at being able to promote them in stores and just generally get completely behind whatever they're doing because we know that everything they do is going to be big). Sales on the first edition of LATE have been fantastically strong - they've been constantly in our top sellers chart since the album dropped, and they're still right now at #24 chainwide - which might seem like a low number, but consider how long that record has been out, and consider that it was a LOCAL release and is competing with HUGE titles by bands that are distributed and promoted nationwide, and you'll see that this is an amazing feat. As an example to put it in perspective, the first edition of LATE has already sold as many copies at Bull Moose as we have ever sold of the first Rage Against the Machine album. And that's a big number. And we've been selling the first Rage Against the Machine album since we opened in 1989. Rustic Overtones were number one in our sales charts for weeks when the album first dropped. The new AFA album is already at #7 chainwide and it's really only been out since Tuesday (preorders also contribute to that number, but still, we haven't even seen a full week of sales yet). Also consider that very strong sales of previous albums, primarily through Bull Moose, were one big reason that Viva Nueva got a national release on a major label (not that we are taking credit - the biggest reason of course is that Rustic is probably the hardest-working local band out there, and is insanely talented). But it has been a very cool ride and we are incredibly proud to have been, and to continue to be, a part of it. -Dem

Hey Dem, I do mean Open Letter..., but I mean the FIRST version of Open Letter (includes Sandals 4 Shoes, Jenny Better, All These Words), not the one released by Octone Records. If you think Bull Moose actually has one of the original Open Letter discs, please do let me know, but I'm guessing you just have the Octone release

Does the original Open Letter have At Least I've Tasted Love on it? I've been wishing I've had a non-live version of it for so long...
I can't wait for the Long Division re-release. Being a newer Rustic fan, I missed out on getting Long Division or anything before it. Based upon live recordings though, I think I will really like it.
