"PAST,PRESENT and FUTURE OF RUSTIC!!!!!!
Hey folks, Tony here. Just wanted to check in on our behalf and get you all up to speed on where we've been and what's been going on in our world. Truth is, although it's looked like not alot of activity, there has been a ton of movement and many developements going on "behind the scenes" since last spring.. I'm gonna do my best to explain as much of it as I can. You can also check in from day to day as I plan to do this more regularly in daily blogs and road journals in hopes that I wont have to do 4 mnths worth in one sitting... (stretching fingers, blinking eyes, sip of drink) ok.. here goes.
First off, I know alot of you are wondering about Spence' and I will get to that, but before I do let me start with the last several months. Starting in April, we began work towards what was suppossed to be the first year of an annual music festival which we will be hosting, hopefully, for many years to come.. The idea was/is to launch our own version of a music and arts event, starting the first year with One 7 hour day of headliners and local bands and eventually growing into a 2-3 day long blockbuster event. All the while, keeping a strong Maine/Portland emphasis.. Ray LaMontagne, who is a great friend and supporter of ours was first to join in, and the prospect of a great day of music was already well on its way to fruition. By July, Citizen Cope and State Radio were also in the mix as were others, along w/ a second stage and a host of established and developing local acts. Needles to say, there was MONTHS of planning and meetings with staff, promoters, sponsers ect. and city council meetings to attend in order to acquire permits. So again, though not in the public eye, still very busy.. Now, Generally when you throw something like this it's a good idea to stay out of the picture for a good while in order to get peeps excited about another show... This is where it all backfired. After months of planning, some shit that we had no control over went down and the show was cancelled, or as it was put.. postponed till next summer. The ramifications from that one run VERY deep for all of us in alot of ways, beleive me. None of us were less than irate, depressed and discouraged. But the broader view is that we stayed away for basically the whole summer with the plan of a big weekend in August that unfortunately never happened. Good News.. It WILL happen next summer. Bad News... We were absent for waaaay too long. The point of this long explanation is just to let you guys all know that although we've seemed very dormant, it's not been the case. Despite what it's looked like from the outside, we are still very much the committed and determined band that you've always known.. Simply put, we got hosed and as a result, so did all of you.. Sorry for that... really. sorry.
The summer hasn't been a total wash however. Spencer and AFA released another record and played a big (possibly final?) show at Baystock. I sort of officially joined PSC and we played some great shows as well as starting work on the fourth PSC record a couple months ago. Meanwhile Ryan has had some incredible travels and shows with Lettuce as well as a steady reggae gig along with Noyes. Gutter has been finishing up a solo record which is incredible and I've been putting the final touches on mine as well.. Jason joined the falmouth police department and grew a mustache. Recently he received a medal after he rescued an old woman from inside her car which was locked...Not to be overshadowed by the fact that he has spent the last two years teaching young, eager children how to play music of all kinds.
Okay, with all that behind us, it's time to start looking forward.. In regards to Spencer, He has infact left the band. With respect to him I'm not going to try to explain the decision on his behalf. What I will say is that WE know his reasons and we respect and understand them.. He is a brother and always will be a brother. He will be missed more than a few times by us in different venues, towns and cenarios but that's how it is going to have to be. To put any rumors to rest, it is all love and VERY amicable. We all thank him for his years of hard work and entertainment that he brought to the band and wish him all the best. I encourage you to do the same if you have the time.
We are currently working Nigel Hall (lettuce) into the role of playing keys. More on that later.. and we are slowly making our way back out onto the road (peep the tour dates on the profile) We are just days away from CONTINUING work on our first brand new full length record in 7 years and the new material (thanks in part to Spence') is and WILL, I promise you, be our best to date. We dont take for granted that many of you have been rooting for us all these years. It drives us and we are proud to wear the flag of the underdogs from Maine. We may be suspisciously quiet right now but we wont let you down. Promise. The giant fire breathing monster, known for it's ferocity and cockroach-like unwillingness to go away, that we call RO has been taking a long deep breath and is just waiting to exhale in the coming months.. WE ARE GOING TO MELT YOUR FUCKING FACES YOU BUNCH OF PUSSIES!!!!!!!
just kidding. we love you and care for you very much... But we are going to melt your fucking faces...
Bye for now. sorry for any misspellings my eyes are burning... and crossed.
