Sweet! As posted in the MySpace Blog.........
Hey everyone, this is Gutter here to keep everyone posted on the progress of our new album (untitled as of yet). The last few shows we have been giving you guys some sneak peeks of new material and we hope you all approve so far.
Working Titles
1. The Downside of Looking Up
2. The Same does not Apply
3. The Smallest Spark
4. Arizona
5. The Blues
6. Weatherman
7. Nuts and Bolts
8. Red Afternoon
9. Tattoo
10. I guess theres only nine so far
Since 2009 has been underway we have been very busy in the studio, and I'm excited to say we are about 10 songs in. It has been quite an undertaking where most of the songs are longer than we have done in the past and have larger arrangements. So far on this record we have incorporated a string quintet, trumpets, more trombones, oboe, steel drums, cowbells the size of a small goat, chris moulton, and a contraption Tony made out of broken cymbals. We have also been arranging parts for timpani and harpsichord and Jay just purchased a bass clarinet. There are also instruments laying around the studio that I don't know what they do. Maybe they are tools?
Then there is Nigel: the new blood, the Barack Obama of the Overtones. He swoops into portland like some kind of phantom and records musical masterpieces in the the time it takes me to poop. As you know he has added a lot to the live show and thats also translating into the new record. The chemistry we have with Nigel is a beautiful thing.
Also, I have begun an endorsement deal with "AO" guitars and have been collaborating with them on a "Dave Gutter" signature model, thanks to the master craftsman Andrew Olson. Check them out at aoguitars.com.
We would also like to thank all the fans who sent in stories for the documentary. They were hilarious! We will pick the winners soon.
Basically the jist of this blog is that I'm proud of all the hard work everyone has put in and I think the end result is going to be our best effort to date. So hang in there, lots of new things are on the way.
Hope everyone is doing great.
Cheers,
Gutter
