Why do we not have more recordings of PSC shows? They are also great live. What do you people use to record? Give me some info on the equipment. I attend some of these shows. I'd be happy to record and share if someone is willing to give me info on how to do it properly.

I haven't been to a PSC show since I got my recorder. I use a Zoom H2, which I've found to be the least expensive recorder that still provides a relatively professional sound. It retails for about $140. It's got a good built-in mic, an input jack, headphone monitoring, visual meters, and manual gain control. There are plenty of cheaper options out there, but you're sacrificing quality and control. www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/480163-REG/Zoom_H2_H2_Ultra_Portable_Digital_Audio.html

I also use the Zoom H2. I got it because Im working a temporary job and it seemed like prices and complexity jump a bit when you get out of this class of recorders. You could probably find a nice used setup on ebay if you are patient as well. Ill send you some more details in a PM

Thanks for the info. I'm going to look into the H2. When you record where do you position your self for the best sound and things like that? I am clueless and I want to do this right if I'm going to do it. Any knowledge that you can inmpart on me would be appreciated.

rusticovertones.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=general&action=display&thread=71Here is some info posted already. I have set up the H2 near the soundboard or toward rear center of the room for the sake of convenience and probably sound quality. Right in front of the stage would probably be good, but not possible due to the crowd being there. If you have to pick a non-central position its easy to correct one track being louder than the other (left vs right) but you also want to avoid weird echoes. One of the other guys on the forum may know more about this. I have also used it to record some poor (due to talent deficiency) recordings in my old basement with amplified guitar, bass and vox with drums not mic'd. Set the recorder at amp height, near the floor and moved everything a few feet farther from the set to keep them from overpowering.

I'm no expert, but here's what's worked for me. I try to get equidistant from the amps, and away from as much crowd noise as possible. You could pick up a stand of some kind to elevate it up off the floor. I usually just hold it old set it on a table on the included stand. This is not the best method for sound quality, but I'm also there to enjoy the concert. You want to watch the audio levels display to make sure you're not too low, or worse, too high and clipping. The H2 lets you monitor the audio through headphones, but this can be tough at a loud concert. It also has a line in port, so you can record from another mic or a sound board, but you may need an adapter to XLR. The one time I taped from the sound board it came out just a little too hot, luckily dgilly was there taping too.

i'll hopefully get a few in the next couple weeks. Definitely doing portland and probably will do the brickhouse show as well. Something got messed up with my equipment at the last brickhouse show. could have been the beer. I really need to start monitoring the recording - was probably just a loose cable somewhere.
crayons which show was that?
