Rock Like War
-----------------------------------
Life is swallowed up,
It's sitting deep in the belly of winter,
We all walk round and over and over our shoulder,
The stinging glance of winters face,
The frost hydrates,
The rusty shapes of an old crippled Ford,
Thats the car we don't drive no more.
Trees just stripped to the bones,
By the same rain that washes what it names of home-made graves
It's demolition time when it rains.
Powers gone out so we can start a fire.
Too many storms that rocks like the wars, outside.
But then the stop drop in rocks from the mountain side.
Too many storms that rocks like the wars, outside.
Wake me up, in the summer not in the winter,
With hail as the nails to hold down the floor boards,
I hear the wind roar,
All the way though December.
The Wind is the choir,
The snows getting higher,
The house is on fire,
And I'm still cold inside.
We only talk about the weather,
Stormy days we just complain,
While outside its looking better,
Its inside we stand out in the rain,
Stand out in the rain.
It's just a thunderstorm,
Baby there's nothing you should fear,
The sky is broken.
Rain drops on my window pane,
Like music to my ears,
It's wide open.
If the clouds turn brighter days,
Into a more minor refrain its still a song.
And we can stand out in this storm,
And fill this bottle full of rain and sing along.
And sing along.

Dear Mr. President
-----------------------------------
Dear Mr. President,
I'm a soldier with the 82nd airborne stationed overseas.
My family and my friends all pray god is watching over me,
Even god can't save us now.
Mr. President I'm writing you this poem,
And I sent along a picture of my family back at home,
I hear my heart beat loud out in these killing fields alone,
I always hit my target, I just miss my happy home.
When will be the end of this all?
Now that our back is against the wall.
I joined the army like my father did,
And his father before,
I saw army green canvas look like perfect art of war.
The images I see now are like ones i saw before.
How am i hero if don't know what its for?
Days are getting longer,
Night I never get sleep.
And I just had a new born daughter that I hope I get to see.
I've got bloodshed on my conscience,
She's so innocent and free,
I just killed some baby's father,
Better him instead of me.
And mankind is getting small.
Before the war- life it was beautiful,
We marched out in the sun.
Now it's stars a stripes at funerals,
our darkest days have come.
Dying in this combat zone,
It scares me half to death.
Because if I don't make it to heaven,
What's to live for after death?
I've seen mothers of the friends I've lost out marching in a crowd,
Cause their songs wear purple hearts,
Inside their coffins in the ground.
When they left for war,
They thought their mommas would be proud,
When they faced off with their enemies they thought they'd take them down.
Hatred is tearing our soul apart.
Separation is tearing the world apart.
Corruption is playing its part.
-----------------------------------
Troublesome
-----------------------------------
It was bad luck,
When I first came.
Never woulda thought you woulda fucked with me,
Looking back so utterly (ugly?).
You know what they say it can't always rain.
When the sun does come out,
I can be your shade.
You say don't bother me,
Well you ain't seen nothing yet.
I'll be your troublesome,
Without you babe.
I've surely come undone,
Without you babe.
You think it's bad,
Well just leave me,
Believe me,
You ain't seen nothing yet.
This bad seed will be pushing up flowers,
If I ain't got nothing left.
You know one day you say,
We all got some good inside.
Na-na-na none the less,
I think it's evident,
I could better than I ever been,
And still leave you unimpressed.
Without you babe,
They'd be no other one,
I'd just be troublesome,
I'd just be troublesome.
-----------------------------------
Hardest Way Possible
-----------------------------------
Another elephant gray sky and it's cold outside,
I've been a phantom with no place to hide,
Is my fortune searching for the love inside?
Am I tortured, scorching, cause I'm burning alive.
Inside, I am small,
But it's light gets through cracks in these walls.
When I see you glow I glow like no one else can know.
It's so hard,
It's the hardest by far,
Hardest way possible.
It won't be soon,
I can't promise you,
But I promise you for good,
You won't be trampled underfoot.
It's the hardest way to give.
It's the hardest way to take.
It's the hardest way to live for Christ sake.
So hard, but God heal these scars,
Take bleeding hearts out of bars,
That drown the hours away.
Getting to the bottom of it fast,
Swimming damn near the bottom of the glass.
You can't and you won't and you stop,
When every rung on the ladder is farther to drop
What is at stake now hear?
And what is not?
It's so hard.
-----------------------------------
Black Leather Bag
-----------------------------------
I can't see what you keep in your leather bag.
So why don't you open it, for a friend now?
Secrecy turns curiosity to necessity.
Won't you let me see,
Heavy thoughts,
And heavy things?
You start to worry me.
I hate your black leather bag.
Haven't I respected your private time,
I give you space,
To face any problem.
Privacy for adversity to work its way through,
I wanna be a fly on the wall next to you.
(modulated vocals in break down. can only figure out partial words)
Black leather bag.
-----------------------------------
Oxygen
-----------------------------------
I drown,
I drown inside myself.
The water rushing in,
Please help me breathe again.
In hell.
I hope you're doing well,
In hell.
Cause that's where I find myself when,
I can't Hold my breath.
Until you come back to me
Cause I'm half, way down.
Since you turned your back to me.
I beg you please,
Will someone rescue me?
Someone set me free.
And now I'm lost here out at sea,
And I'm gone,
So far gone.
In so deep,
That I can't hardly see the light shine down on me.
We can go tonight,
We don't argue and fight,
I know,
You're the closet thing to peace I know.
The world can get it wrong,
But we can get along.
Make love,
Don't make war.
-----------------------------------
Carsick
-----------------------------------
Some things are not believable,
Some things are not conceivable,
The things that always seem to fall apart.
Other things light black and blue right from the start.
When I drive with you it's not so hard.
They said flying,
Is safer than your car,
And I get claustrophobic,
When I'm driving for an hour.
Staring at the road,
The radio is loud,
But nothings on.
(still nothings on)
I get car sick,
And it seems a hundred days since when we started,
Since when we started it all.
But if we drive slow,
We won't get there at all.
I see the intersection lights,
I see the kids rip down the signs,
See the holes in roads that even yellow lines.
I see the airplanes in the sky,
When I can't sleep at night.
But I can't see why you just want to drive.
-----------------------------------
Carnival
-----------------------------------
I think she ran away,
She must have ran away,
With the carnival, today.
She loved the chimpanzees,
She always loved flying trapeze,
She loved the carnival more then she loved me.
How can I hold her like the strongest man alive?
How can I get her high?
She rides the ferris wheel all night,
I start to cry,
And the moonlight in my tears looks like the movie lights.
I think she's with the carnival tonight.
I think she ran away,
She must have ran away,
When the circus was in town, today.
I thought we got along,
I thought nothing was wrong,
She was the happiest I've seen her in days.
I can't sleep when you're with the 3-legged man.
We had a lovely house ,
Now its the big-top tent,
Give me a chance,
I can love you more then those elephants,
But she wants the clowns that make the horses dance.
Your with the carnival i guess
I think she ran away,
She must have ran away,
With the carnival, today.
I thought I smelled her cotton-candy breathe in those balloons,
I cant see her face now its all covered with tattoos.
Can I hold her like the strongest man alive?
How can I get her high?
She rides the ferris wheel all night.
I start to cry.
And the moonlight in my tears looks like the midway lights.
I think she's with the carnival tonight.
She must be with the carnival tonight.
I think she's with the carnival tonight.
-----------------------------------
Light At Then End
-----------------------------------
Yesterday was bad,
But now it's even worse today,
The sun turned into blackness,
And the moon burst into flames.
Stars fell from the ashes,
The blue sky turned to gray.
There was glass broke on the floor,
When I knelt down in church to pray.
This wicked world is twisted sideways,
But all things will turn around.
Just when things were looking upside down,
All things will turn.
All things will turn around.
All things will turn.
All things will turn around.
Yesterday was bad,
But now the worst is yet to come.
It's like the sunshine never touched my skin,
And birds, they never sung.
My crying eyes felt heavy,
My tear drops weighed a ton.
With my tired mind I'm ready,
Un afraid of days to come.
-----------------------------------
Happy
-----------------------------------
I'm so happy.
I'm with all my friends,
I start to squint.
When I see you start to grin,
What a perfect day for,
A perfect situation like this.
I can't stop laughing,
Just when I think I catch my wind,
I turn the happiest I've been,
Here is come again,
The birds all sing.
Da do do do, Da do do do, Da do do do.
Todays a blast,
Cause the skies not overcast,
If I saw the rain right now,
I'd fall down and collapse.
But now I'm laughing once again,
And I'm happier then I have ever been.
